WOMEN'S GOLF: Utah Valley University golfer Stacey Parkinson tied a school record with a 74 in the first round of the Bobcat Invitational tournament on Tuesday at Bozeman, Mont., leaving her just three shots off the lead heading into today's final round.

As a team, the Wolverines, who finished third at the season-opening Wildcat Invitational last weekend, currently sit in fifth place in the six-team field, but they are just three shots out of third place.

Parkinson's 74 came just days after carding an 88 at the Wildcat Invitational in Kaysville, Utah, and UVU women's golf coach Sue Nyhus was impressed with how she was able to regroup.

"It was a great round," Nyhus said. "She was very determined and focused and she brought it straight to her game."

Memphis leads the tournament with a seven-over 291, while Cal State Fullerton is second at 303 followed by Montana State (311), Idaho State (313), UVU (314) and Portland (318).

"The placing doesn't look too good right now, but it's a matter of having a good round and we're primed to do that," Nyhus said.

Following Parkinson, Abbie Archibald and Beverly Pike are tied for 21st after shooting 79s, while Jordyn Dougal is tied for 27th after shooting an 82.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: After winning its last two matches, the Utah Valley University women's volleyball team was looking for its third straight win when it played at Boise State on Tuesday night. The Broncos had other ideas, though, as they defeated the Wolverines 3-0 (17-25, 23-25 and 23-25).

"It was a very good match, it was disheartening that we lost in three," UVU head coach Sam Atoa said. "I felt like we could of pulled out the second or even third set. We just haven't been able to take care of the ball for the last two points. We've had opportunities but sometimes we end up being a little too cautious and it goes against us."

Boise State (5-2) took a one set to none lead after they managed to pull ahead in the first set and win it by a score of 25-17. Midway through the set with BSU only up three at 15-12, the Broncos then went on a run where they scored six of the next seven points to take a 21-13 advantage. Boise State managed to hold on to the first set as they won by a score of 25-17.
