SALT LAKE CITY — The Pioneer Memorial Museum, 300 N. Main St., has been closed for renovation for five months but will reopen Friday, Oct. 8, with a rededication.

The facility houses the largest collection of pioneer antiques and artifacts west of the Mississippi, as well as hundreds of thousands of pioneer histories, photographs, maps and books.

The morning events will consist of a program for invited guests where Gov. Gary Herbert will speak and LDS Church Historian Elder Marlin K. Jensen will address invited guests and offer the dedicatory prayer. Pioneer presentations, storytelling, special tours, a ribbon cutting by the governor and other activities will follow in the afternoon.

The event is hosted by the International Society of Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

After 60 years of operation, the building needed various upgrades and improvements.
