Utah Utes football: Wynn listed as day-to-day after taking snaps

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn, who sprained the thumb on his throwing hand in the Pitt game, took snaps in practice Monday. He did not, however, throw any passes while wearing a protective wrap/brace on the injury.

Wynn directed any specific questions on the situation to head coach Kyle Whittingham, who confirmed the Utes are taking things one day at a time.

"That's pretty much the long and short of it," he said. "It's a thumb and we're just taking it day-by-day."

Wynn is determined to play in Saturday's Mountain West Conference opener against UNLV.

"Definitely. That's always the goal," he said. "I'm trying like (heck) to get ready. So we'll see."

If Wynn is unable to go, Whittingham expressed confidence in backup Terrance Cain.

"If his number's called he'll be ready to go," Whittingham said.

EXTRA POINTS: Sophomore wide receiver DeVonte Christopher and freshman safety Brian Blechen have been named MWC Players of the Week. Christopher caught eight passes in the win over Pittsburgh, while Blechen made a pivotal interception in overtime. ... Linebacker J.J. Williams, who has been sidelined with a foot injury, jogged in practice Monday but is still considered questionable for Saturday's game. ... Utah's 18-game home winning streak is the nation's third-longest active run, trailing only Oklahoma (30) and Boise State (26).
