SOCCER: Senior Lauren Hansen's second-half goal was the equalizer as the Utah State soccer team tied San Diego State 1-1 in double overtime in San Diego on Sunday.

With the tie, the Aggies are now 2-1-2 this season, while the Aztecs are now 1-3-2. Utah State has now gone three matches without a win with two ties and a loss in its last three matches. The Aggies' last win was a 4-0 win over Utah Valley on Sept. 22.

"We expended a lot of physical and emotion energy on Friday against Long Beach State, and you could definitely tell that we were a little fatigued from that. We weren't as sharp as we would have hoped, but with that being said we battled hard. We gave it everything that we had on the field today," USU head coach Heather Cairns said.

The first half saw both defenses step up as USU goalkeeper Molli Merrill had four first-half goals compared to three by SDSU goalkeeper Aubree Southwick. The Aztecs ended the first period out-shooting the Aggies, 8-4.

It took San Diego State less than two minutes to strike first with a Megan Jurado shot to Merrill at the 1:51 point of the first half. Freshman midfielder Kendra Pemberton, who scored the Aggies' lone goal against No. 24 Long Beach State on Friday, had the first USU shot in the 11th minute of the match.

The half would end with both Merrill and Southwick maintaining shutouts through the first 45 minutes of play.

In the second half, the Aztec offense would strike first in the 47th minute.. Kim Carcich scored her first goal of the season with a sliding kick from the left side off the assist from Sarah Halverson. Carcich's goal would give SDSU the 1-0 lead.

San Diego State would keep the lead until the 60th minute of the match when

With an Aztec defender was on her tail, the senior slid the ball out of reach of Southwick to tie the score, 1-1. Senior midfielder Stefani Shiozaki earned her second assist of the weekend on Hansen's goal. The senior now has four assists this season, passing her assist total of the previous three seasons. Hansen is now tied for the team lead in points with five.

She is tied with sophomore defender Natalie Norris.

Hansen now has 27 career goals and is just five goals from second in career goals scored. Brigid Turner (1999-2000) is currently second with 32.
