LARAMIE, Wyo. — Austyn Carta-Samuels passed for 319 yards and three touchdowns as Wyoming held off a late rally by Southern Utah to earn a 28-20 season-opening win on Saturday night.
Carta-Samuels completed 26 of 32 passes with an interception. He had touchdown passes of 39 and 69 yards to Zach Bolger, who caught five passes for 134 yards, and 9 yards to Mazi Ogbonna.
The Cowboys' other score came on a 1-yard run by Alvester Alexander.
Southern Utah was led by quarterback Brad Sorensen, who passed for 193 yards and one touchdown.
Wyoming built a 28-10 lead with two TDs in the third quarter and held on after the Thunderbirds scored 10 points in the fourth quarter on a 30-yard field goal by Brock Miller and 1-yard run by Major Gray.
