WEST VALLEY CITY — A clinic worker has been charged with impersonating a doctor and providing prenatal care to patients at a women's clinic.

Jose de Jesus Cruz Sanchez, 53, was charged last month in 3rd District Court with one count of unlawful practice of medicine, a third-degree felony.

Sanchez treated pregnant women at the West View Women's Clinic, 3451 S. 5600 West, "performing and interpreting ultrasounds and other radiology studies and exams," according to court documents.

Sanchez wore a doctor's coat and had his name on letterhead and medical records, court documents state, but the man was not licensed to practice.

The Utah Attorney General's Office said the state's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is still conducting an investigation related to medical billings submitted by the clinic.
