High School Football: Felts Facts Week 3

Undefeated/Winless

Entering the third week of the 2010 season, 35 teams remain undefeated, yet just three contests pit unbeatens this week: Davis at Weber, East at West and Parowan at South Summit.

A total of 71 schools have at least one win, and some of the remaining 29 winless teams may pick up a victory this week, but just four games match winless squads: Tooele at Ben Lomond, Bonneville at Roy, Delta at Park City and North Sevier at Kanab.

Utah vs. The Nation

Utah was 11-1 vs. out-of-state teams last week (the only loss was Kanab's 16-0 setback to Virgin Valley, Nev.). Utah vs. The Nation continues with nine more games this week, highlighted by Skyline's trip to the Big Island to play Kealakehe and Riverton's first-ever out-of-Utah game, at Highland of Pocatello.

Fifty-one Utah teams have tangled with at least one out-of-state school the past decade and 15 more since 1991. Excluding the high schools that have opened since 2007, 10 have never faced an out-of-state team: Bountiful (began its football program in 1956), Kearns (1966), Manti (1969), Murray (1916), Pleasant Grove (1908), South Sevier (1920), Taylorsville (1981), Timpanogos (1996), West Jordan (1981) and Woods Cross (1977).

In addition, East hasn't played a non-Utah team since 1947, Payson and Spanish Fork since 1959 and Grantsville since 1966.

Fast Starts

Cedar City hasn't posted back-to-back shutouts since 1981 and last opened with consecutive whitewashings in 1960. East is trying to start 3-0 for the first time since 1997.

Grantsville, with a victory at winless Millard, will be 3-0 for the first time since '99.

Hillcrest, hosting 0-2 Lehi this week, could be 3-0 for the first time since its 5-0 start in 2003. Hunter hasn't seen 2-0 since 2005 when the Wolverines won their first six games. Morgan will be 3-0 for the first time since an 8-0 start in 2005 by beating Wasatch .

Provo began the '09 season at 2-0, but if the Bulldogs get by West Jordan, they'll be 3-0 for the first time since 1991. If Riverton wins in Pocatello, it'll be 3-0 for the first time since 2005. Timpanogos will see 3-0 for the first time since '04 with a victory over first-year Herriman..

Weber hasn't won its first two games since 2002 when the Warriors started 4-0. Woods Cross won its first two games in 2007 but with a win over Mountain Crest, will be 3-0 for the first time since 1989.
