PROVO — A Salem man was arrested after police say he tried to steal sleeping pills by putting them inside a baby's diaper.
The 29-year-old man was booked into jail for investigation of retail theft.
On Aug. 27, the man was shopping at a Crisp's grocery store in Salem. A store video camera recorded him putting a box of Unisom sleeping pills into his shopping cart, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.
The man paid for the items in his cart, but when the store clerk held the baby, he discovered the individually-wrapped pills inside the baby's diaper, the affidavit states.
The man has a history of previous theft and drug possession charges.
