Internet sensation Elizabeth Lambert returns from suspension

MILWAUKEE — New Mexico defender Elizabeth Lambert went from Internet sensation to the end of the bench. The Lobo soccer player was made famous or infamous for her on-field attacks during a game against BYU.

The 5-foot-8 senior from Los Angeles didn't return to the pitch Friday night in her first chance since being suspended two games following her rough play in November that included pulling the hair of her BYU opponent.

Lambert was reinstated Tuesday, but didn't talk to reporters then and didn't appear in the first game she was eligible against Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Friday.

Athletics spokesman Frank Mercogliano said Lambert wouldn't speak unless she was involved in a play that helped determine the outcome. The Lobos and the Panthers played to a 1-1 draw.

Lambert is expected to be a key contributor for the Lobos this season. On this day, she was just a cheerleader.
