WEST JORDAN — Having fun while learning how to save the Earth through water conservation and reducing carbon footprints is the goal of the Utah Green Festival, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Conservation Garden Park, 8215 S. 1300 West, West Jordan.
"The more people incorporate green and sustainable living practices into their daily lives, the more they can reduce their carbon footprint, which is something many of us are striving for," said Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District assistant manager Bart Forsyth. The district is sponsoring the festival.
The free event offers food and live music, including singer/songwriter Peter Breinholt.
Activities include kids' garden and science projects featuring composting and creating reusable message boards, an obstacle course, rock climbing wall, bounce house and face-painting artists.
Utah residents consume about 258 gallons of water per person per day. The state is the second-highest in the nation for water consumption. The district's goal is to reduce water consumption 25 percent per person by 2025.
The Jordan Valley district is a wholesaler of water to cities and improvement districts in Salt Lake County.
