Police discover stash of marijuana in Centerville home

CENTERVILLE — Police sent to a home with the house number of 420 Wednesday got more 420 than they bargained for.

Officers investigating an unauthorized move into the vacant home at 420 N. Main discovered numerous marijuana plants and arrested a 28-year-old Salt Lake City man.

Police were called to the Centerville home Wednesday after the owner reported that someone was attempting to move in without permission, Centerville Police Lt. Paul Child said. Officers arrived and spoke with William Flury, who had a number of personal items and was planning to move in. Police immediately noticed a "strong odor of marijuana," Child said.

A police dog confirmed there was a controlled substance in the man's vehicle and an attached trailer, the lieutenant said. Officers found four garbage bags with a number of fresh-cut marijuana plants, six live marijuana plants which were growing in five gallon buckets, a growing light and numerous containers filled with marijuana bud. In total, police recovered 35 pounds of marijuana, 26 plants which had been cut and six plants that were still alive and growing.

Flury told officers that all of the marijuana and paraphernalia was for his personal use, Child said. He was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of marijuana cultivation, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.
