High school sports: Preps of the week
MARCUS CASE, Springville, football
He didn't quite tie the state record as originally believed, but he had quite a night.
Case finished with 370 rushing yards in Springville's 55-48 season-opening victory over Dixie last week.
Officially, Case finished with 17 carries for 370 yards and four TDs. His scores covered distances of 12, 53, 65 and 58 yards.
He added 68 receiving yards and 64 return yards for 502 all-purpose yards.
"Marcus has been a starter for three years," said coach Scott Mitchell. "He was a part of every big play we had last year. He is a seasoned player and will be a big part of what we do this year."
In one night, Case nearly surpassed his 405 yards from 2009.
ALEXIS PETERSON, Bountiful, soccer
She has proven to be an anchor to a young Bountiful offense early in the season. Peterson, a junior forward, has started off on fire for the Braves with five goals and one assist through the first two weeks of the season.
Seeing Peterson step up is not a surprise since she is entering her third year as a starter. In addition to her soccer prowess, Peterson earned all-region honors in track this past spring and carries a 3.9 grade-point average in the classroom.
