LOS ANGELES — Michelle Obama and Laura Bush will join forces and appear together on Sept. 11 in Shanksville, Pa., to honor those killed in the nation's worst terrorist attack.
The appearance by the current and former first ladies on the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks was announced by the National Park Foundation, the official charity of the parks system. The foundation is raising money for a memorial at the site to honor the 40 passengers and crew who fought terrorists who seized United Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001. The plane crashed into a nearby field.
About 3,000 people were killed in the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon and in downed Flight 93.
Also attending the Pennsylvania ceremony will be Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell.
