I would like to express appreciation to Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff for showing positive restraint in regard to the crucial and emotional issue of immigration. As an elected Republican in a heavily Republican state, Shurtleff easily could have given the green light to an Arizona-style immigration bill here in Utah. Instead, Shurtleff recognizes that local law enforcement must not be doing the job assigned to federal officials. State and municipal police need to hunt down murderers, rapists and robbers, not dig through papers to see who is and isn't legal in Utah.
I'm also interested to read the immigration bill to be presented by state Sen. Luz Robles. It sounds like she's got some good ideas, which, hopefully, are good enough to win bipartisan support.
