MANDERFIELD, Beaver County — Heavy rains this week have helped keep in check a wildfire in Twitchell Canyon.
The fire has burned 4,482 acres since lightning sparked the blaze July 20, according to the National Forest Service.
The fire will likely burn throughout the rest of the summer, but firefighters are watching the flames to protect private property, Forest Service officials said, specifically the historic Kimberly Mining Area.
The fire, burning about 7 miles east of Manderfield, has caused closures to parts of Indian Creek Road and Sevier Canyon.
