Utah Utes football: Shaky Smithson named to Hornung list
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah senior wide receiver Shaky Smithson was named as is one of 48 players named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Wednesday. The Paul Hornung Award, in its first year, will be given to the most versatile player in college football.
Smithson, projected to start at receiver, is also Utah's No. 1 punt and kickoff returner. A running threat as well, he filled in at running back last year when injuries struck. Off the field, he is the legal guardian of his younger brother Anthony.
Smithson is the fourth Ute named to a 2010 watch list this season. Earlier, senior offensive linemen Zane Taylor and Caleb Schlauderaff were named to the Outland Trophy watch list, while Brandon Burton was selected to the Jim Thorpe Award watch list.
