BRYCE CANYON RUN/WALK

BRYCE CANYON — The 26th annual Bryce Canyon Rim Run and Walk will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, beginning at 9 a.m.

The event is held as a fund-raiser for the local Boy Scouts organization.

The scenic 5-mile trail run and walk overlooks Bryce Canyon and winds its way through forests of ponderosa pine. The gently rolling course has an elevation of approximately 7,600 feet. The average temperature at race time is 62 degrees.

The race starts and ends at the Best Western Ruby's Inn located on Highway 63 just outside Bryce Canyon National Park. Pre-registered participants should pick up their race packets at Ruby's Inn on Friday, Aug. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. Registration will also be available at that time and on race day until 8:30 a.m.

Mailed entries must be postmarked by Saturday, Aug. 21. Entry fees are $20 if postmarked by Aug. 21 or $25 after Aug. 21. Entry fee includes a T-shirt, post-race lunch, awards, refreshments and prizes.

The race is open to interested runners and walkers of all ages. Awards will be presented to the first-place overall male and female runner and walker and to the top three finishers in each age division.

WILDLIFE BOARD MEETING

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Wildlife Board will meet today at 9 a.m. in the boardroom of the Department of Natural Resources, 1594 W. North Temple.

The following are among the items the board is expected to discuss and approve:

Cougar and bobcat permit numbers for Utah's upcoming seasons.

A revised plan to manage river otters in Utah.

Duck and goose hunting rules for this fall's hunt.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

SALT LAKE CITY — Boaters can be arrested for boating under the influence (BUI) of drugs and/or alcohol, and convictions for BUI could mean jail time, large fines, cancellation or rate hikes on their insurance or loss of their drivers' licenses.
