SALT LAKE CITY — A man is facing multiple felony charges after police said he rammed a federal agent's car to escape arrest.
Officers were attempting to arrest Shawn Livingston Cloward, 31, on a number of outstanding warrants this week when the incident happened, according to charges filed Thursday in U.S. District Court.
Cloward pulled into a cul-de-sac, turned around, crashed into a U.S. Marshal vehicle and then tried to ram another, the indictment states.
Police said Cloward's Jeep Cherokee nearly hit a number of other police vehicles before colliding with a Unified Police Department truck, which caused the Jeep's rear tire to come off.
When officers finally handcuffed Cloward, they found a backpack containing a 9mm handgun inside, according to court documents. Cloward was convicted earlier this year of a number of felony counts and given a suspended prison sentence of one to 15 years.
After the incident this week, Cloward faces up to eight years in prison for a charge of assault on a federal officer and up to 10 years in prison for a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
