SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Planning Commission rejected a City Council-drafted proposal to extend a moratorium on demolitions in the Yalecrest neighborhood Wednesday, matching a ruling made by the Historic Landmark Commission last week.
The back-to-back rebuffs are likely to undo the compromise drafted in July by the council, though the proposal is now headed back to the body for further consideration.
A debate about the efficacy of a local historical district for the approximately 1,400 homes in the tony east-side neighborhood has divided homeowners and left the city's legislative branch, which has struggled for months to craft a solution, at essentially where it started last spring.
The topic is currently posted for comment on the city's new Open City Hall Web page at www.slcgov.org.
