MEN'S BASKETBALL: Head coach Jon Judkins announced this week that Rio Hondo College guard Maurice Cole has signed to play basketball for the Dixie State Red Storm beginning this winter.

"We are excited to have Maurice at Dixie State. He does a good job of seeing the floor, and he is a very smart player. We think that he can come in and play a big role on our team right away," said Judkins.

As a sophomore at Rio Hondo, Cole averaged 11.7 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds per game while shooting 38 percent from beyond the 3-point line. Cole was also named to the Foothill Conference honorable mention team in 2010. Before his career with the Roadrunners, Cole prepped at Santa Fe High School, averaging 18 points per game during his senior season, and leading his team to two Del Rio League titles during his career.

He becomes the second Rio Hondo product to transfer to Dixie State since 2008. Point guard Adam Ross arrived in 2009 after two years at the Whittier, Calif., institution and helped the Storm earn their first NCAA National J.C. Tournament berth last season.

Cole becomes the seventh member of an already impressive Red Storm 2010 signing class, joining Griffon Jones, Sol Jensen, Dillon Bishoff, Jacob Nish, Landon Littlefield and De'Quan Thompson.
