S.L. officials unveil conceptual drawings for public safety building

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City officials on Tuesday released the first "look" at the new $125 million Public Safety Building and are seeking public input on the layout of the facility.

The conceptual renderings are intended to help planners and members of the public get a sense of the new building and to garner thoughts and opinions on how it fits into the neighborhood and the city.

The current concept features a four-story structure with a public plaza that opens to the library across 300 East.

The architecture team of GSBS, MWL and Civitas will incorporate input into the ongoing design process. The first drawings of the structure itself are expected in a few months.

Funding for the new city facility, which will house Salt Lake public safety administration as well as an emergency operations center, was approved overwhelmingly by voters in a 2009 bond measure.
