CEDAR CITY — A tour van crash left three people dead and several others seriously and critically injured near Cedar City on Monday.
Two of the victims who died were ejected when the van carrying about 15 people north on I-15 went off the road just north of Cedar City, crashed into the median and rolled at about 6:40 p.m., said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden.
The third victim who died was found trapped inside the van.
Officials say it appears two of the victims who died were adults and the third was a child.
Several other victims were ejected when the van rolled, and crews transported six or seven people by ambulance to nearby hospitals with minor to critical injuries.
It's unclear why the van swerved on the freeway, and officials don't know whether the driver was one of the victims killed or injured in the wreck.
Roden said the van was traveling from Las Vegas to Bryce Canyon and it doesn't appear any of the passengers were from Utah.
