LAYTON — The west span of the Utah Department of Transportation's south Layton interchange project was successfully moved into place over the weekend. The east span will be moved into place Aug. 21.
Traffic was moved from southbound I-15 Saturday night and back to the interstate at 4 a.m. Sunday as UDOT and Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Co. moved the 2.4 million-pound west span into place using hydraulic rams.
The east span will be moved using the same method, resulting in northbound I-15 being closed the evening of Aug. 21.
The $97.5 million interchange project will construct a full interchange in south Layton, a bridge over the Union Pacific and Utah Transit Authority rail lines and the new Layton Parkway, connecting east Layton to west Layton at Fort Lane and Flint Streets.
