WOODS CROSS — City officials in West Bountiful and Woods Cross have approved a draft project area plan for a site along Legacy Parkway that could feature a research park.

Public hearings and meetings took place this week on the West Bountiful/Woods Cross Legacy Community Development Project Area. Each city council approved ordinances for the plan to become the official community development area plan for the area.

The joint "Legacy Gateway" CDA area consists of about 157 mostly incorporated acres north of 500 South between Legacy Parkway and Redwood Road. Currently, plans call for a research park and offices to occupy most of the site, although officials have said that could change based on market conditions.

"Woods Cross' perspective is that we need to have the groundwork in place so that when development takes place, we're in a position to have happen what we'd like to see happen and be able to have the groundwork laid to facilitate it," Woods Cross Mayor Kent Parry said. "Woods Cross city will not be a landowner. We won't be buying land or courting developers. We just want the framework in place so that for landowners, as there's interest, we can make the project work once it gets to that point."

The joint CDA would be in place until the area is annexed into the two cities, and the area would be absorbed into their respective CDAs. West Bountiful's adjacent CDA has 268 acres; Woods Cross' CDA has about 300 acres.

Various taxing entities must approve the plan. Parry said the Davis School District board's approval this week of the Legacy Crossing development in Centerville is a positive sign. It also involves a CDA along Legacy Parkway. The district is the largest such taxing entity in the county.
