SALT LAKE CITY — With a goal of saving 2,400 animals in three months, Salt Lake County Animal Services hopes to win $100,000.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is sponsoring a challenge through Oct. 31. The shelter with the greatest increase in animals adopted or reunited with owners wins. Animals that are trapped, neutered and returned also count.
There also is a $25,000 community engagement award that will go to the challenge winner or a runner-up.
To kick off the challenge, the shelter is offering $50 discounts and a free box of treats with all dog adoptions through Saturday. Cat and kitten adoptions continue to be free and include sterilization, microchip, vaccinations and a bag of food.
The county shelter is at 511 W. 3900 South. For more information, call 801-559-1100 or go to www.adoptutahpets.com.
