DETROIT — Edwin Jackson won his debut with the White Sox, and Paul Konerko and Carlos Quentin homered as Chicago beat the Detroit Tigers 4-1 Wednesday night.

Acquired from Arizona on July 30, Jackson (7-10) allowed one run over seven-plus innings. He was an All-Star with Detroit last season.

The loss dropped the Tigers eight games behind Chicago in the AL Central, matching their biggest deficit of the season.

Jackson gave up nine hits, but Detroit stranded 11 runners in its second loss to him this season. Bobby Jenks got 23rd save.

YANKEES 5, BLUE JAYS 1: At New York, Alex Rodriguez became the youngest player to hit 600 career home runs, and his two-run, first-inning drive helped the Yankees ended a three-game losing streak. Derek Jeter had four hits and scored three runs, and Mark Teixeira drove in three runs to support Phil Hughes (13-4).

ATHLETICS 4, ROYALS 3: At Oakland, Kevin Kouzmanoff hit a tiebreaking, two-run double in the sixth inning and the A's took advantage of two errors to take the three-game series from Kansas City.

INDIANS 9, RED SOX 1: At Boston, Andy Marte hit a three-run homer in a five-run seventh inning, and Justin Masterson pitched five solid innings against his former team.

ORIOLES 9, ANGELS 7: At Baltimore, Luke Scott homered for the third straight game, and Baltimore improved to 2-0 under new manager Buck Showalter. Felix Pie had three hits and three RBIs for the Orioles, who are assured a fifth series win of the season — in 35 tries.

TWINS 2, RAYS 1 (13 INNINGS): At St. Petersburg, Fla., Delmon Young had a tiebreaking RBI single in the 13th inning for Minnesota. Matt Guerrier (2-6) threw two perfect innings for the win after losing three times against Tampa Bay this year.

RANGERS 11, MARINERS 6: At Seattle, David Murphy hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning and Michael Young smacked a seventh-inning grand slam as Texas turned back the Mariners. Every Texas starter had at least one hit in the game, and six Rangers players had two hits each in a 15-hit attack.
