I read Chris Hicks' July 27 article "Raunchiness oozes across old boundaries," and I just want to say that I agree with him. I'm 16 and I watch a lot of television, probably too much. When I watch it I sometimes come across a show that talks about sexual matters like it is just a casual thing, and it isn't.
I realized one day at school that not only is television bad but it also affects the students in my high school. Its extent reached a school assembly one day. The assembly was to organize a day set aside where the students would get out of class and go clean and restore places all around my city. The principal said to the students, "We would ask you to bring a shovel, bring a rake, bring your own hoe..." which caused much laughter to erupt in the auditorium. I sat disgusted while nearly everyone laughed, even some of my closest friends laughed.
I think it is disgusting that we can't even talk about cleaning without having a comment sound remotely sexual. It just comes to show that television has gone too far.
