FARMINGTON — Davis County will seek about $4,825 in federal funds to improve accessibility at its voting sites.
The County Commission on Tuesday approved the application, which will be sent to the lieutenant governor's office for consideration. The office administers funds from the Help America Vote Act.
Pat Beckstead, election coordinator in the county clerk/auditor's office, told the commission that if the application is successful, the funds would be used to improve accessibility at St. Olaf School in Bountiful and for portable, folding ramps that could be used at sites with gravel or uneven surfaces affecting accessibility. St. Olaf Catholic School needs a sidewalk curb cut that would allow wheelchair-bound people to go directly into the gymnasium from a nearby parking lot. Currently, they must travel down a driveway and then along a sidewalk around to the gym, she said.
