PROVO — A nine-member board of college students has been added to Provo's list of volunteer committees and councils.
Approved by the City Council Tuesday, the Student of Higher Education and Young Adult Advisory Board will be made up of individuals ages 18-30, with at least five of them students at BYU, Utah Valley University or some other post-secondary institution. Student association presidents from BYU and UVU will be asked to recommend one committee member each.
The other seven will be selected from individuals who apply online at the city website, www.provo.org.
"Now we have the committee, we have to get the names," said Mayor John Curtis.
Board members will be asked to weigh in on student-related issues, such as parking, transportation, off-campus housing, and recreation and leisure offerings, and "encouraging civic engagement among young adult age groups," the ordinance reads.
