SOUTH SALT LAKE — A woman who had been reported missing from a care facility for about 27 hours has been found with family Saturday evening.
Initia Leota Kaifoto, 60, was reported missing about 8 p.m. Friday from the facility, near 3000 South and State Street, having been gone since 2 p.m. that day. She left the facility on her own and went to Rose Park, where family members live. The family with whom she was staying was watching the 5 p.m. TV news Saturday.
"When the news story hit the TV — I don't know which channel — the family member she was staying with called our dispatch saying she was fine and had been with her all along," South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Brittan Heddlesten said.
Care facility representatives told the police they were going to Rose Park to pick her up. The facility is not locked down, and Kaifoto went for walks and took the bus around town.
Apparently, when the family decided Kaifoto would sleep overnight in Rose Park, "they didn't feel it was necessary to call the place where she lives," Heddlesten said.
