'Our Song' leads list of openings

When a wisecracking composer finds a new, offbeat lyricist, sparks fly. But the match is not made in heaven.

"They're Playing Our Song" is based on the real-life story and relationship of composer Marvin Hamlisch ("A Chorus Line") and lyricist Carol Bayer Sager.

Will the two undergo a series of trials in order to find love before the curtain falls? The Terrace Plaza Playhouse production stars Shelby and Annie Ferrin.

"They're Playing Our Song" runs Aug. 6-Sept. 11, Terrace Plaza Playhouse, 99 E. 4700 South, Ogden. Shows are Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7-$12 (801-393-0070 or www.terraceplayhouse.com.

"Awesome '80s Prom," Aug. 13-22, The Egyptian Theatre, 328 Main, Park City.

This interactive show brings the audience to the prom at Wanaget High in 1989. The audiences becomes characters in the show and gets to decide who wins prom king and queen, all while break dancing to the retro '80s hits you love.

Shows are Thursdays through Saturdays, 8 p.m., and Sundays, 6 p.m. Tickets are $18-$25 (435-649-9371 or www.parkcityshows.com.

"A Midsummer Night's Dream," South Jordan Community Theatre, Aug. 6-17, South Jordan Community Center, 10775 S. Redwood Road, South Jordan.

The classic Shakespeare comedy, starring Rachel Keuhl, Zac Bringhurst, Jessica Dudley, Toni Butler and Andrew Hackman.

Shows are Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays, 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 (www.sjtheatre.org.

"High School Musical Junior," Aug. 6-21, The Empress Theatre, 9104 W. 2700 South, Magna.

The popular Disney movie comes to life on stage. Troy, captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella, a math and science whiz, both audition for the high school musical and they ruffle a few feathers when they don't stick to the status quo. The show stars Dylan Jones, Katie Asper, Cheryl Cripps and Skyler Bluemel.

Shows are Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $9 (801-347-7373 or www.empresstheatre.com.

"The Tempest," Such Stuff Productions, Aug. 3-6, Canyon Rim Park Amphitheatre, 3100 S. 3250 East.

This small theater group is dedicated to bringing Shakespeare's greatest works to the community.
