1. Bingham (13-1)

Class: 5A

2009 Playoffs: Beat Davis in 5A championship.

Outlook: The Miners are the undisputed team to beat with nine returning offensive starters and nine returning defensive starters. Season opener: at Viewmont, Aug. 20.

2. Alta (10-3)

Class: 5A

2009 Playoffs: Lost to Bingham in 5A semifinals.

Outlook: Will count on four returning O-line starters to help it compete with rival Bingham. Season opener: at Cottonwood, Aug. 20.

3. Davis (10-3)

Class: 5A

2009 Playoffs: Lost to Bingham in 5A championship.

Outlook: Returns some quality defensive starters from last year's 5A runner-up team. Season opener: vs. Brighton, Aug. 20.

4. Timpview (11-2)

Class: 4A

2009 Playoffs: Beat Springville in 4A championship.

Outlook: With plenty of returning starters, T-Birds are favored to win a fifth straight 4A title. Season opener: at Pleasant Grove, Aug. 20.

5. Mountain Crest (10-2)

Class: 4A

2009 Playoffs: Lost to Timpview in 4A semifinals.

Outlook: After three straight semifinal losses to Timpview, and now that Alex Kuresa is a senior, is this finally the year the Mustangs get over the hump with a title? Season opener: vs. Highland, Aug. 20.

6. Lone Peak (9-3)

Class: 5A

2009 Playoffs: Lost to Hunter in 5A quarterfinals.

Outlook: The Knights return plenty of contributors to be a factor in the difficult Region 4 race. Season opener: at Bountiful, Aug. 20.

7. Highland (8-4)

Class: 4A
