EAST CANYON RESERVOIR — A Murray man drowned at East Canyon Reservoir while he was boating with family and friends Saturday.
The 29-year-old man was on a boat on the west side of the reservoir, about 60 feet from the shore. He tried to swim to shore and went underwater. Officials believe he was in 15-foot-deep water when he went under, Morgan County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Peay said.
It took dive teams about an hour to find the body because the murky water made it difficult to see anything farther than a foot away. His body was found about 60 feet from shore.
The victim's name is being withheld until his parents have been notified. The body is with the State Medical Examiner's Office.
"The water isn't that deep," Peay said. "We don't know if there was alcohol or anything else involved."
Officials said family and friends are "pretty upset."
