GILLETTE, Wyo. — With one day to go, Utah's high school cowboys and cowgirls are holding on to second place after Friday morning's go-round at the National High School Finals Rodeo. The Texas team took the lead after Thursday night's performance and is still in the lead with 4,500 points. Utah and Oklahoma trail with 4,104.5 and 3,970 points, respectively.
Individually, Enterprise's Carol Lee Holt and Plain City's McKale Hadley are third and fourth in barrel racing, needing to make up 0.6 seconds to catch the overall leader.
On the boys side, bull rider Tim Bingham, of Honeyville, is in fifth place. Team ropers Taylor Christensen, of Plain City, and Ogden's Kelton Morse are in third place.
West Point's Colton Wade is still in second place in cow cutting, seven points behind the leader, while Plain City's Paige Hadlock and Chyanne Thacker of West Bountiful are in a tight race for second place in the girls' competition. Thacker stands second in the all-around rookie cowgirl race and eighth in the all-around cowgirl standings.
