SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary Herbert has named four Utah attorneys to replace retiring judges in northern Utah's 2nd Judicial District.

The 2nd District covers Davis, Morgan and Weber counties.

Among the appointees is Michelle E. Heward, a full-time professor of criminal justice at Weber State University. She was chosen to be a juvenile court judge in Weber County, according to a statement from the governor's office. Jeffrey J. Noland, a Salt Lake City attorney with the Utah Office of Guardian ad Litem, was named as a Davis County juvenile court judge. Also chosen was David R. Hamilton, a lawyer with a private practice in Ogden. He was selected to serve as a Weber County district court judge, the press release states.

Finally, Noel S. Hyde was chosen as a district court judge in Weber County. According to the statement, he is a private practice attorney in South Ogden.

"The people of the 2nd District will be well-served by these four future judges," Herbert said in the statement. "Each has excelled in his or her legal career, and each comes highly recommended by the bar and bench."

The state Senate must still confirm all of the appointees before they may start work.
