SALT LAKE CITY — The mother and brother of a 24-year-old man turned him in Friday morning after he was accused of taking 10 or more motorized scooters from a business near 1300 South and State Street.

But the man, Joseph Nesbitt, got away on one of the machines before police arrived, according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Melody Gray. Nine of the scooters have been returned to the business owner.

The scooter still at large is either red or orange and has a license plate of 818VH.

Police believe Nesbitt broke into the scooter store to steal the equipment. He is described as a heavy-set black man, standing about 6 feet tall. Anyone with information on Nesbitt's whereabouts is asked to call Salt Lake City Police at 801-799-3000.
