SPRINGVILLE — The always colorful World Folkfest gets under way Monday with a street dance for residents, while dance groups from around the world showcase their talent and cultures beginning Tuesday.
The 2010 Springville World Folkfest runs each evening through Saturday, July 31.
Dancers and musicians this year are from China, the Czech Republic, France, Paraguay, Spain, Nepal, South Korea and Ghana. The folkfest is held at the outdoor amphitheater at the Spring Acres Arts Park, 620 S. 1350 East. All dance groups perform in colorful native costumes during each evening's show. Live musicians accompany the dancers on traditional folk instruments.
The Folkfest begins the free annual street dance at 8 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Springville Museum of Art, 126 E. 400 South.
The Folkfest's nightly performances begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Spring Acres Arts Park, just northeast of Springville High School. Gates open at 6 p.m., and a preshow begins at 7:15 p.m.
Tickets are $8 for adults; $7 for students, members of the military (with ID) and senior citizens; and $4 for children ages 3-12. Children younger than 3 get in free. A family pass is available for $25, which admits two adults and up to four children under age 18. The group rate is $6 per person with groups of 10 or more. Tickets can be purchased at the gate the night of the performance.
