This hike offers terrific views looking down Ogden Canyon from the overlook. The grid pattern of Ogden's streets stretch west toward the Great Salt Lake, with views into the Nevada horizon. At Parking 2 at Snowbasin, the trail starts at the metal gate. The gate closes the Maples Road to traffic, which allows hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers peaceful enjoyment. The road heads downhill and opens to a large meadow. In the meadow, there is a side trail to visit a marsh at .44 mile. After the marsh junction, the trail turns uphill to a "Maples Trailhead" sign and the next junction. Stay on the road for Maples Campground. You pass a bulletin board and enter the old Maples Campground and another large meadow. On the other side of the meadow is the trailhead for Ogden Overlook. The trail travels northwest and has a couple sweeping switchbacks to the saddle. At the saddle, take a break and enjoy the view of Snowbasin. Turn left at the saddle, and enter conifers. Near the end of the hike, the trail straddles the ridgeline penninula spine for Ogden Overlook. Take a seat on the sitting bench, have lunch and give your eyes a canyon feast.

Directions: In Ogden, drive up Interstate 84 and take the exit for Huntsville. Take Highway 167 (Trapper's Loop), and follow the signs for Snowbasin. Drive past the lodge, and park on the far side of Parking 2. The trail starts on the gated Maples Road.Destination Overlook
