MAPLETON, Utah County — Saturday's city celebration will includes a pingpong ball drop from a helicopter, with 14 bicycles being given away as grand prizes. Every ball will have a number that corresponds with a corporate-sponsored prize.
"We want every ball turned back in," Mayor Brian Wall said.
The 800-ball drop is for kids ages 14 and under and starts at 6:15 p.m.
The celebration, which includes a parade, food and entertainment, culminates at Ira Allen Park at 800 West and 1600 South. Local stakes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints take charge of the celebration, but the city is getting more involved, Wall said. Events include a magic show, music by the Red Desert Ramblers and a fireworks show.
