BRIGHAM CITY — Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Brigham City Utah Temple have been formally announced by the LDS Church.
While the July 31 date has been reported for several weeks, the groundbreaking was officially announced Tuesday by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The public is invited to attend the 9 a.m. event, which also will be broadcast live by satellite to LDS stake centers throughout the temple district.
It will be the 14th Mormon temple in the state of Utah when completed; the edifice at 250 S. Main will be located across the street from the historic Box Elder LDS Tabernacle. Plans are for a four-floor building with approximately 36,000 square feet.
Patterned after classic designs found at the Logan, Manti and Salt Lake temples, the Brigham City Temple will have a limestone exterior and face east toward the tabernacle. The temple will have two spires. The angel Moroni will reach several feet higher than the highest point of the neighboring tabernacle.
