Salt Lake Bees: Mark Trumbo tries, tries again, hits game-winning HR

FRESNO, Calif. — In his first three at bats, Bees designated hitter Mark Trumbo struck out.

On his fourth try, he hit a game-winning solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to give Salt Lake a narrow 1-0 victory over the Fresno Bees.

It was the slugger's 21st dinger of the season and 73rd RBI.

Michael Kohn (3-2) got the victory, pitching the final 1 1/3 innings, as all four Bees hurlers pitched well. Fernado Rodriguez, Bobby Cassevah, Rafael Rodriguez and Kohn combined scatter eight hits over the 12 innings.

Grizzlies starter Todd Wellenmeyer pitched well in his rehab assignment, allowing just one hit in five innings of work.

Fresno nearly ended the game in the 11th inning. Jesus Guzman hit a lead-off single, advancing to third on two straight groundouts. Rafael Rodriguez intentionally walked Ben Copeland to allow his replacement Kohn to pitch to Matt Downs. Kohn got him to fly out ending the inning.

BEES WAX: On Monday, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced that infielder Maicer Izturis had completed his rehab assignment with Salt Lake and returned to the Angels' active roster. Izturis, 29, was placed on the disabled list on June 16 with a strained left forearm. He appeared in two games for the Bees during his rehab assignment, hitting.286 with one RBI. In 30 games for the Angels this season, he has a .233 batting average with eight doubles, two home runs, 15 RBIs and four stolen bases.

The Angles also recalled right-handed pitcher Trevor Bell and right-handed pitcher Sean O'Sullivan from Triple-A Salt Lake. In other movement, right-handed pitcher Tim Kiely has been promoted to Salt Lake from Double-A Arkansas.
