SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert is the new chairman of the National Governors Association's Economic Development and Commerce Committee, replacing California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"Gov. Herbert has extensive experience with economic issues and trade policy at both the state and local level," the association's vice chairman, said Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman. "His leadership is just what we need as this committee tackles these vital issues throughout the coming year."
Herbert said Utah "is recognized as a leader among the states when it comes to economic development, and I believe this new assignment, which I am honored to receive, reflects that."
The appointment was made at the association's annual meeting in Boston. Utah is scheduled to host the 2011 annual meeting of the nation's governors.
