First hearing set regarding Mapleton sign ordinance lawsuit

MAPLETON — A public hearing to discuss redoing the city's ordinance related to political signs is scheduled for Tuesday, but it likely will be continued.

City Manager Bob Bradshaw earlier said the issue wouldn't come before the City Council until the planning commission heard it Aug. 12.

Because the item was already on the agenda, the city couldn't issue a withdrawal, he said Wednesday.

The city is considering revamping the ordinance after being sued over First Amendment issues, although officials denied they ever enforced the ordinance.
