MAPLETON, Utah County — For years, city leaders have fought Wendell Gibby over his plans to develop residential lots on Maple Mountain.
Now residents will get to vote yea or nay on the rezoning the Mapleton City Council approved to satisfy Gibby. City officials were informed recently that a referendum by a grass-roots organization, Friends of Maple Mountain, will go forward in November.
The group took the issue to the Utah Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of the group and the referendum last February. It will be the only municipal issue on the ballot, Mayor Brian Wall said.
The referendum is aimed at cancelling the rezone approved in 2007 that allowed 47 lots instead of the original zone's 23.
