SALT LAKE CITY — SelectHealth, a subsidiary of Intermountain Healthcare, went live on Thursday with an online tool for small businesses to determine how much they can benefit under new federal health care laws.
SelectHealth's senior legal counsel Greg Matis explained the new site and answered questions about the new rules over breakfast in a downtown hotel.
The event was staged by the Salt Lake Chamber.
Matis told the crowd of a few hundred that a small business with fewer than 25 full-time employees who make, on average, less than $50,000 per year, could count up to 35 percent of their health insurance costs as a tax credit starting this year. However, there are still many unknowns in the new system, he said. The tax credit estimator can be found at selecthealth.org/taxcredit.Matis urged small businesses to get professional help on tax return documents and accounting
