The Utah Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker Coalition is seeking donations of food, clothing and blankets for migrant workers now entering the state for cherry-picking season.
The coalition notes that such workers often earn less than $7,500 a year and says about 19,000 such people work on Utah farms each year.
The coalition seeks long-sleeved shirts, long pants, work boots, socks, new underwear, blankets, sunglasses and insect repellent. It also seeks non-perishable foods, such as rice, beans and canned foods.
It has three drop-off locations. It is collecting this Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Centro Civico Mexicano, 155 S. 600 West, Salt Lake City. It is collecting on Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Centro Hispano in Provo at 817 S. Freedom Boulevard.
It is also collecting Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Ogden at Futures Through Training at 1140 E. 36th Street, Suite 150.
