WEST JORDAN — A man was arrested Wednesday morning after police say he tried burglarizing a home that was still occupied.
A 40-year-old woman was at her friend's condo, near 1300 West and 6700 South, taking care of a dog while her friend was out of town when she heard a knock at the door. Despite continuous knocking, she ignored the person at the door since she did not live there, said West Jordan Police Sgt. Drew Sanders.
A few moments later, the woman heard someone breaking into the house through a window, he said. The woman ran out the back door with her cell phone and called 911. Officers arrived before the intruder had left.
"We called him out and took him into custody," Sanders said.
The man had a crowbar and a bag with items from inside the condo he had collected and was planning to steal, he said.
The man told police he was 46-year-old James Dunn, although investigators had not been able to verify Wednesday afternoon if that was his true identity. He said he was originally from Kansas City.
Dunn was arrested for investigation of aggravated burglary, criminal mischief, theft and possession of burglary tools.
