American Fork utility rate hike takes effect

AMERICAN FORK — Residents will be paying more for their utilities starting this month as new utility rates approved by the City Council take effect.

Sewer rates experienced the biggest hike after the Timpanogos Special Service District, which processes American Fork's sewage, raised its service fees by 27 percent. That change will be felt by all northern Utah County cities that contract with the district.

The Central Utah Project water rate was increased from $5 to $6.50 to help fund the city's portion of the Provo Reservoir Canal Enclosure Project, which will include a trail system over the enclosed canal corridor.

American Fork's drain fee was raised from $4 to $6 to generate funds to build a dome facility to house its salt supply and fund other projects in accordance with state and federal regulations.
