LAYTON — Davis County faces both in- and out-of-state competition as it tries to land an upcoming conference of county officials from the West.
The Davis Area Convention and Visitors Bureau has bid to have either the 2012 or 2013 National Association of Counties' Western Interstate Regional Annual Conference at the Davis Conference Center.
Barbara Riddle, the bureau's president and chief executive officer, said the three-day conference is expected to have about 400 attendees from 15 Western states. That would place it among the larger conferences for the center. The economic impact is estimated at more than $250,000, she said.
Three other sites — Coconino County, Ariz.; Santa Fe County, N.M.; and Anchorage County, Alaska — also have bid for either the 2012 or 2013 conferences. Utah County has bid for the 2013 event.
"We're excited to be able to have the opportunity to host them, and it would be an honor to have them here within our county," Riddle said.
