MOAB — A veteran police officer accused of breaking into his own department and stealing nearly $1,000 will spend 30 days in jail.
Edward Arvel Guerrero, 43, was sentenced Tuesday in Moab's 7th District Court. He was ordered to begin serving his sentence July 10.
Following his release, Guerrero will have to pay $958 in fines and spend the next two years on probation, according to court records.
Guerrero was charged in January with breaking into the Moab police department and stealing money sometime between Aug. 15 and Oct. 6 of last year.
